With 5 locations around the world, Verto Education offers high school graduates the opportunity to start college through a first-year experience abroad. Students partake in full-time coursework with our Academic Provider, University of New Haven, while participating in programming and community activities that enable students to grow in their path to self-authorship, including internships.
The intern position will operate in a dynamic role in engaging their peers to promote the Verto Community Values and advance initiatives related to Verto Discovery - our community-building framework. By the end of this internship, you will gain experience in the following skill sets:
- Communication: engage with a variety of stakeholders and through various mediums, including social media, in-person events, and written communications
- Events: Work with teammates and students to design, implement, and evaluate events that build community
- Public speaking skills: Be a voice within your community
- Community Coordination: Design, execute, track, and measure projects related to promoting sense of belonging amongst the Verto Community
- Reporting & Documentation: Track, document, and communicate relevant student information to appropriate stakeholders to support informed decisions and community well-being
The intern will report to the onsite Student Success Manager, who is excited to work with you. Hours for this position will be 15 hours a week, and an exact schedule will be decided with your manager. Applicants should be available to occasionally attend / host in-person events in the evening times. Please note: You will likely be assigned more tasks, these are meant to be examples and not representative of the total breadth of workload.
Primary Responsibilities
Academic Success:
- Co-host Study Groups with onsite staff. Promote study groups with peers to ensure high levels of engagement
- Support the Peer Tutor initiative by increasing sign-ups for tutoring. Depending on your interest, host a study group based on your academic background and skill set
Events and Operations:
- Design, execute, and follow-up on events for Verto Community in coordination with the on-site team. You will create fun and engaging events for students to get to know one another. Event sizes range from 10 - 100 students.
- Contribute to the planning and leading of Wellness Week, Discovery Week and Closing Ceremony
- Set up events within Community App and manage RSVP list
- Design flyers and descriptions, and promote events on the Community App, social media, and word-of-mouth
Community Ambassadorship / Mentorship:
- Weekly content creation (photos and videos) to share your point-of-view on for social media channels and on-site communication channels
- Host at least one Instagram live event with the Marketing team and do at least one social media takeover
- Attend all events to promote active engagement of Verto Community
- Support student leaders who will lead activities on-site
- Mentor students who are getting prepared for their first semester of college through events and other initiatives that share insights on how to be a successful college student
